Pigeon Forge has been named a Tree City USA by the National Arbor Day Foundation to honor a commitment to its community forest.

It is the sixth year that Pigeon Forge has received the recognition.

The Tree USA program is sponsored by the National Arbor Day foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA forest service.

Pigeon Forge has also demonstrated progress in its community forestry program in the following activity areas: education and public relations, publications, continuing education for tree workers, tree planting and maintenance, recycling, and tree preservation.

The Growth Award recognizes environmental improvement and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities.

Pigeon Forge has met the four standards to become a Tree City USA community: a tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, a comprehensive community forestry program and an Arbor Day observance.

With March quickly approaching, Pigeon Forge visitors are beginning to wonder what kind of spring activities we have in store! Check out our Springfest webpage for a calendar of events and descriptions of activities about to begin or read on for a bit more of a tease on exciting things to come.

While the mountains may still have snow-capped peaks, the towns surrounding the Smokies are beginning to bud. This week brought snow, but was quickly followed by warm weather and summer time thunderstorms. March weather is quite unpredictable but always entertaining. Plan on experiencing Springfest in Pigeon Forge, Sevierville, and Gatlinburg if you arrive between March 8 th and June 14th.

Springtime also means that Dollywood is reopening (April 14th). Our outlet malls will be reinstating their summer hours and new clothing is already appearing in all the stores. Quiltfest is also quickly approaching. This exciting quilting showcase deserves its own page. Outdoor activities such as putt-putt and go-cart tracks are already available and I have seen crowds on the weekends. The longer days and warmer weather give you even more opportunities to enjoy Pigeon Forge.

With the coming of spring, you can also plan on all those car shows! Ribfest, outdoor craft shows, and many other events are also already scheduled. Whether you're coming for the day or want to stay for a week, be sure to check out our Coupon page to help your wallet. Go for a hike! Bike in Cades Cove or along the wonderful bike trail in Townsend. Baby animals will be tottering on their new legs through meadows as the new life of 2007 begins to appear. For more information on the park, Click Here!

Remember, if you ever have any questions about Pigeon Forge or its surrounding communities, post your comments! We are here to help you, our visitors, enjoy our home.

While visiting Pigeon Forge, TN during Winterfest, be sure to schedule a visit to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park! With snow remaining on the ground in the upper elevations, and beautiful ice framing the streams and waterfalls, the magic of the mountains cannot be beaten.

One of the most popular destinations within the park during the summer months continues to awe visitors even in February. Laurel Falls, a roughly paved 2.6 mile round trip trail leads visitors along sunny ridges, through patches of rhododendron, and even reveals some scenic views in winter months. This pleasant walk ends with a grand finale. The water plummets 75 feet through this two-layer falls. With the recent freezing temperatures, you can plan to see a large amount of the falls and its surrounding boulders covered in beautiful ice formations! I visited February 10th and will never forget the amazing scene. While standing on the small wooden bridge that places you in between the two layers of the falls, you will see huge mounds of ice in the middle of rushing water. The calm pools of water have ice lining their edges and forming within their depths.

To learn more about Laurel Falls or other hiking trails, visit our Smoky Mountains page. Winter time is the perfect chance to experience the serenity of these mountains. On a Saturday morning in the summer, one could expect to see large numbers of people along the trail and resting around the falls; however, on my hike, we passed only three small groups and enjoyed the falls without any other people in site.

Take advantage of the mountains year round!

There are not too many annual western celebrations east of the Mississippi, but Pigeon Forge, TN is definitely proud to host such an event that attracts thousands of people each year. This year marks the 7th Annual Saddle Up! and it will be held February 22-25. It is almost impossible to find a greater collection of western musicians and entertainers performing in the same place. Not only that, but this is an event that every member of the family, young and old, can really enjoy and become a part of.

The performances will be held in various venues and theaters throughout Pigeon Forge such as the Country Tonite Theatre and the American Jukebox Theater. This year’s performers include Don Edwards, Waddie Mitchell, R.W. Hampton, Wylie & the Wild West, Brenn Hill, the Burson Family, Rich O’Brien, and Belinda Gail and Curly Musgrave. Many of these folks are nationally acclaimed and praised for their various skills and talents. From them, you will hear all kinds of cowboy music, stories, yodeling, poetry, and symphony compositions, while being able to watch or participate in a Western Swing Dance, a Cowboy Action Shooting Competition, Cowboy Church, and even shopping in the Cowboy Clothing Mart. There is definitely plenty to do and keep you busy, and the hardest part is just trying to make sure that you don’t miss any part of everything that is going on throughout the entire extended weekend.

Make sure not to miss it and plan to be here in Pigeon Forge for this western celebration. To get a complete schedule of the events and happenings during Saddle Up!, visit the Pigeon Forge Winterfest website.
