Clowns, face painting, balloon animals, and colorful decorations will fill the train during the 1st Annual Circus Express. Passengers will be "clowning" around by the time it returns to the station. On July 21 and 22, the Three Rivers Rambler excursion train will be transformed into the Circus Express. Departures are at 2pm & 5pm with tickets costing $22 for adults and $12 for children.
During the circus train, the conductor and volunteers will decorate the passenger cars with animals and balloons creating a special circus theme. The train consists of a fully restored 1925 steam locomotive, two coach cars, a merchandise car, an open air car, and a red caboose. The caboose is a favorite for birthday parties and family reunions.
Everyone on board will receive a special clown gift to remember the fun!
Another first time event for the Three Rivers Rambler this year will be a Railfan Day on Sunday, August 26. Experience a rare mileage trip through Knoxville's industrial sites. The all day event will take passengers northwest along the railroad tracks through town and a working steel plant before taking the scenic excursion to the French Broad and Holston Rivers. Lunch will be served on board and multiple photo opportunities will be available.
Railfan Day will start at 10am on Volunteer Landing. Following the two train rides, the Knoxville Locomotive Works shop will be open to view engines under repair and enjoy a Q&A session with the Master Mechanic of Steam Jeff Parrott. Tickets for the day cost $49.00 per person.
