Snowy December in the Smoky Mountains

With the snow last week, and the very low temperatures all week long, we were just waiting for the next snowfall and it’s here!  All day yesterday we saw snow flurries on and off.  As we made it through the day those flurries got heavier and before we knew it there was an inch of snow on the ground!  East Tennessee had a winter weather advisory for Sunday and Monday and will continue to be in effect through Tuesday in parts of the Smokies.  Most of the mountain roads are closed including Newfound Gap, Laurel Creek Road and parts of the Foothills Parkway.  If you have questions about the weather related road closings be sure to check out the National Park Service’s websiteor call (865) 436-1200.

If  you’re in the mood for some beautiful snowy Smoky Mountain photos, check out Mt. LeConte’s blog.  They received about 5 inches of snow on top of the previous snow from last week!
