Cades Cove loop will close for pest control for a couple days this week. Starting Wednesday, December 1 park managers will close the loop to all vehicles to treat hemlock trees infected by the hemlock woolly adelgid. During the closure on December 1st, only hikers will be allowed to travel the Loop Road. The spraying operation on December 2nd will only impact the western end of the Loop Road. Motorists and cyclists will be able to enter the Loop as they normally would, but will have to detour across the Loop via Hyatt Lane (the second gravel crossroad) to exit Cades Cove. Hikers can continue through the closed portion. The detour will shorten the length of
the trip to an 8-mile tour of Cades Cove.
The Hyatt Lane bypass will eliminate access to the Cades Cove Visitor Center and Cable Mill area as well as the several trailheads located on the western end of Cades Cove:Abrams Falls, Cooper Road, Rabbit Creek, and Wet Bottom Trails, and Gregory Ridge trailhead. Read more about the treatments and closure here.
The owners of Pigeon Forge’s Titanic Museum, John and Mary Joslyn are already working on opening a new attraction in Pigeon Forge! They have just announced the opening of a new attraction called Water Magic. It will open on the 2100 block just across from the Titanic.
Water Magic will be an attraction/interactive museum that is based solely on water. However, it’s not a museum (boring), but also far from a water park (but you WILL get wet) which makes this attraction very unique. It will feature all things water. Cool things you can do with water, how you can play with water and other unbelievable things that water can do. It is said to “leave guests amazed and in awe.” Getting excited yet?
The attraction will feature an entrance with a 100 foot sculpture topped with a 1,000 gallon water bucket that sends water down into the entrance. Then you will make your way through fountains of all kinds that are choreographed to music, where you will also run into the wizard of water who loves to get people wet. From there is where the real fun begins. The attraction will feature different galleries offering fun experiences with water, “from the mysterious to the slippery to the mesmerizing to the reflective and hypnotic.” One will create the illusion of walking on water, another offers a Water Tunnel with a surprise introduction and another will open to a mirror maze that features, of course, water. There will also be a deep sea area, where visitors will experience what a dive to the ocean floor is like, complete with the challenges and creatures of the briny deep. Down the hall will be the Bubble Room, where all can explore the workings of bubbles.
Throughout the attraction there will be plenty of chances to get wet, so there will be body driers at each gallery so that guests will not leave in wet clothes and there will also not be a need for bathing suits in the attraction. We do not have a projected opening date for the attraction but we are excited about the addition to the Pigeon Forge family! Keep an eye our for more info about Water Magic!
