If you’re visiting this week or next just be sure to enjoy what’s left of this beautiful fall season and get prepared for the winter chill and winterfest lights! Winterfest kickoff is next week so it’s already time to start planning your winter vacation to Pigeon Forge!

September sun starts setting earlier and earlier and fades into October and early November. As soon as the fall winds start to blow, many whitewater rafting companies are closing for the season—but not Rafting in the Smokies! The Gatlinburg-based rafting company believes that serious paddling season doesn’t wait for the weather. Cold water gushes down from the mountains, and this is one rafting and paddling group that accommodates visitors who crave the excitement of rafting. The rafting experts at Rafting in the Smokies navigate visitors on a expedition through the rugged and exhilarating Smoky Mountain waters until Thanksgiving. Feel up for the challenge? Just wear the right gear and bring the right attitude.

Expert rafters highly recommend wearing materials such as polyester silk fleece Polartec and polypropelene. The number one rule of clothing during a winter whitewater experience is “no cotton.” Cotton fabric holds moisture and keeps you cold. Wool hat, wool gloves, wool socks, and rain slicker or heavyweight windbreaker would be your best bet. Bring your gung-ho hardy group for some late-season padding. You might enjoy finding out who finishes with best “ice beard!”

Have you planned your Winterfest trip to the Smokies yet? Get started today! Winterfest kickoff in Pigeon Forge is in just a little over a week away and visitors to the area will be flocking to Pigeon Forge to see all the beautiful lights! Also, we have a lot of fun events planned for Winterfest this year! If you’re interested in visiting for Christmas there are a plenty of fun Christmas events such as the Christmas parades and fun light tours. Or you might want to wait until the new year and visit us for Wilderness Wildlife week or Saddle Up! Whatever event is special to you be sure to check out this year! We can’t wait to see you!

Most people think of wedding season from April to October. That’s when the weather is (usually) the nicest and guests can be fairly comfortable indoors and outdoors. Most don’t even consider winter weddings because they want part or all of their wedding outdoors. Of course you don’t want your guests freezing and it is said that outdoor photos are always the best, but take a look at these photos, you might just change your opinion of winter weddings.

Snow in the Smoky Mountains is not guaranteed if you do have a winter wedding here, but I have a feeling a winter wedding in the Smoky Mountains could be absolutely magical! What do you think?
