The days are getting shorter and the nights are growing longer and cooler.  This means Mother Nature is getting ready to paint our beautiful mountains colors of reds, yellows and oranges. We couldn’t be more excited about the changing of the season but we were also very excited to see the Smoky Mountains pop up in two Huffington Post articles this Monday morning!

The first article was a list TripAdvisor put together of their favorite destinations to spot fall foliage.  The Great Smoky Mountains, Tennessee came in number four on their list behind, Stowe, Vermont (3), Berkshires, Massachusetts (2) and White Mountains, New Hampshire (1).

Check out some of our favorite fall foliage photos from the Smoky Mountains!

The next article was from Sherman’s Travel who listed 5 Unforgettable Fall Foliage Drives.  The Great Smoky Mountains came in the number two spot on this list and they had a couple suggestions on where and when to choose the best drives.  The article notes that our elevation differences make the peak foliage season lengthy but hard to pinpoint.  Lots of trees in the higher elevations have already started to turn but we might not see peak changes in the lower elevations until as late as the beginning of November.  The suggested drives are Clingmans Dome Road in early fall to catch the high elevation changes and you can reach Tennessee’s highest peak at 6,643 feet! Then toward the end of October try the Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail where you will pass waterfalls and hiking trails.

We also have a great list of other scenic drives in the Smokies for other great ideas!

DID YOU KNOW?  The Great Smoky Mountains have over 100 varieties of deciduous trees?  Of these tress that will blanket our mountains in fall foliage are sugar maples, scarlet oaks, sweetgums, red maples, and hickories.

Shriners are rolling into Pigeon Forge by the hundreds!  This year the South Atlantic Shrine Association (SASA) is headed to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, meaning up to 5,000 Shriners and as many as 2,500 of their friends and family are on their way.  This Wednesday – Sunday event will be the SASA’s annual business meeting, plus a time for camaraderie and Shriner fun, including a huge parade.

Up to 200 Shrine units will participate in their parade that will take place on the Parkway on Saturday.  The parade will be complete with go-carts, cars, clowns, golf carts, motorcycles, boats and marchers. All visitors and spectators are welcome to attend!

Some other things the group will participate in include a full day of precision motorcycle riding competitions on Friday.  This is all staged in the municipal parking lot on Teaster Lane, with that entire event open to the public for free. In more private gatherings, the Shriners will participate in a golf tournament, hold an associational business meeting and have a banquet at Music Road Hotel, which will serve as the convention headquarters.

Staying true to the Shriner’s dedication to service to the public and children in particular, they will also have a team of doctors in from the Greenville, SC Shrine Hospital for Children to screen youngsters for possible hospital treatment. That clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Music Road Convention Center. The three Shrine hospitals offer free treatment for children with orthopedic problems and burns.  Thank you Shriners for visiting us in Pigeon Forge and for all you do!

Decor for weddings is something that everyone does differently.  Some brides go for a more extravigant wedding with lots of detail, flowers and decor while others go for a more simple wedding with minimal decor.  Below are some photos of fall decor that could fit into any fall wedding.

{A stocking covered pumpkin takes a traditional pumpkin centerpiece up a notch}

{Apple candles are easy to make and would be pretty sitting on their own or paired with flowers, pumpkins or any other fall decor}

{A leaf covered initial would be a cute way to display the happy couple’s new shared last name}

{Spray painting pumpkins can be the perfect way to fancy your decor with a metallic color or allow you to use any color that goes with your color scheme}
