Each year Choice Hotels presents the Gold Award to all hotels in the top 10% and the Platinum Award to the top 5% of their hotels. Two of our Pigeon Forge hotels have received two of these prestigious awards from Choice Hotels. The Quality Inn & Suites at Dollywood Lane received the Platinum Award and was ranked 14th out of 923 Quality Inns in the United States. The Comfort Inn & Suites at Dollywood Lane ranked number 90 out of 1346 and received the Gold Award.

Gatlinburg Named a Top Winter Ski Destination

In a recent Trip Advisor list of the Top 10 Winter Ski Destinations, our Gatlinburg placed second on the list just behind Brekenridge, Colorado. Trip Advisor says Gatlinburg is a great winter destination offering plenty of cold weather fun, including skiing, snowboarding and ice skating at Ober Gatlinburg. Trip Advisor also mentions that travelers can save up to $700 dollars by staying at a vacation rental in the Smoky Mountains for a weeklong trip. Others on the list include South Lake Tahoe in 3rd, Big Bear Lake, 4th and Mammoth Lakes, 5th.

Join the Great Smoky Mountains National Park for the 36th annual Festival of Christmas Past celebration this Saturday, December 10 from 9 am to 4 pmat Sugarlands Visitor Center. The Festival of Christmas Past is a celebration of the history and culture of the Smoky Mountains with an emphasis on the Christmas season. The festival will include old-time mountain music featuring the Lost Mill String Band, Boogertown Gap and South of the River Boys. Demonstrations of traditional domestic skills such as the making of mountain berry baskets, apple-head dolls, quilts, and apple butter will be ongoing. This is a free event and is sponsored in cooperation with Great Smoky Mountains Association.

Throughout 2011, the Heroes of the Diamond will complete the “Road to Ground Zero Flag Tour.” On Thursday, July 21, the Tennessee Smokies and Smokies Park have been granted the honor of being part of this historic tour on the same night that the team will recognize police officers, firefighters, EMT’s and other first responders for their selfless acts serving our local communities.

There have been two recent restaurant additions to the Gatlinburg parkway: Mellow Mushroom and Dick’s Last Resort. The Mellow Mushroom in Pigeon Forge was so popular they decided to open another in Gatlinburg. It is not open yet, but they’re set to open on Monday, May 5. Dick’s Last Resort opened in March and is an interesting addition to the Gatlinburg area, meaning it’s not your typical restaurant.

Gabriella Solomon-Henry, a local doll maker, was discovered through her ETSY website by one of the movie’s prop masters. Newly relesed movie, “Paul” is about about an alien who crash-landed in the 1940s and the government found him. When the crash happened and the government cleaned up the area they took everything away including a girl’s teddy bear. When Paul escapes (60 years later) he wants to find the little girl and return her teddy bear. That’s where Henry comes in.

Susie Millar will arrive in Pigeon Forge March 19 and will be at the Titanic daily through Wednesday, March 23. In honor of her visit, Titanic has a special display focused on Millar’s great grandfather Thomas Millar.

Hawaii, Atlantis, Turks and Caicos…seriously? I can’t compete. Why try. So my thinking is, plan something and act like it is the BEST VACATION EVER. Well, thanks to WonderWorks in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, there was no acting – We had a blast!

A celebration of the AmericanWest will soon descend on Pigeon Forge, bringing with it a variety of entertainment, including concerts, poetry readings, a chuckwagon cook-off, western swing dances and a Cowboy Church event. This festival, known as Saddle Up!, is scheduled for February 25-28, 2010.

This event, now in its 10th year, is the last major event of Pigeon Forge Winterfest. It will feature entertainers like Don Edwards, Waddie Mitchell, Dave Stamey, Sisters of the Silver Stage, Ray Doyle and many more talented performers.

Pigeon Forge Rockslide Causes Road Closings

A Pigeon Forge rockslide closed down a portion of the spur on U.S. 441 and after crews began cleaning up the debris a second slide occurred. Early Tuesday morning TDOT geotechnical engineers inspected the rockslide site and determined that the mountainside is still very unstable and additional work must be completed to stabilize the slope before the roadway can be reopened to traffic.

Bridging the Gap on the Foothills Parkway

There are not too many annual western celebrations east of the Mississippi, but Pigeon Forge, TN is definitely proud to host such an event that attracts thousands of people each year. This year marks the 7th Annual Saddle Up! and it will be held February 22-25. It is almost impossible to find a greater collection of western musicians and entertainers performing in the same place. Not only that, but this is an event that every member of the family, young and old, can really enjoy and become a part of.

This year, your favorite regional theme park is introducing a brand new addition to its already thrilling line-up. It’s true, Dollywood in Pigeon Forge is adding a ride to be launched (just as its riders will feel like they are) in late spring, and it will definitely amaze not only all who choose to ride it, but also every single person who even gets the chance to look at it. This $17.3 million coaster is called the Mystery Mine, and they have been working on it for long enough to say that when it is finished you won’t want to miss it. It’s by no means a cheap project, but when you see it, you will understand why.

It’s storytelling time in Tennessee. Pigeon Forge and its surrounding region have been known for their great tales and yarns for decades. That’s why, to honor that reputation, Pigeon Forge is celebrating with the 16 th Annual 2007 Storytelling Festival. It will be held in the Country Tonite Theater and the new WonderWorks Theater during the weekend of February 1st-3rd. So, for the entire weekend, all you have to do is come and hear your fill of tales, including classic folklore, haunting ghost stories and wild western adventures!

Laugh Made Famous in Pigeon Forge Theater

Laughing is most certainly contagious. All the proof you need is plain for all to see in a video taken at the Comedy Barn in Pigeon Forge. During an act by Eric Lambert, a regular to the Comedy Barn, a gentleman by the name of Doug Collins is called up on stage along with two other audience members. As Lambert starts his routine and asks the first man a few simple questions, the man’s responses stir up the audience enough to draw out some hearty laughter, and the act is rolling. It’s going smooth, but the real entertainment doesn’t begin until Collins’ laughter is heard. For the rest of the act, Collins provided pretty much all the entertainment. First Big Snow of Winter in Pigeon Forge

The first large snow of the winter blanketed the Great Smoky Mountains near Pigeon Forge with gleaming white caps, but also forced closure of the Newfound Gap Road, halting travel across the mountains from Tennessee to North Carolina. Park officials closed the road when snow and ice became too hazardous to allow even four-wheel drive vehicles attempt the pass. The Little River Road was also closed to motorists.

A Pigeon Forge Winterfest event celebrating the cultural heritage and natural beauty of the Great Smoky Mountains, the 17th annual Wilderness Wildlife Week, begins this weekend on Saturday, January 13 at the Music Road Hotel and Convention Center in Pigeon Forge. The week-long event features a tremendous line-up of speakers, artists, demonstrations and hikes that provide an opportunity to better understand and appreciate the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the nation’s most visited national park.

Pigeon Forge Restaurant Lost to Fire

A Pigeon Forge restaurant was lost to a fire on Sunday morning. Firefighters arrived at the All-American Pancake House at the corner of the Parkway and Wears Valley Road around 6:30 in the morning to find that the building was 60% engulfed by flames. An emergency call alerted authorities of the blaze at 6:20; at 6:45, the building “blew up in flames,” in the words of one witness. The pancake house was over 20 years old and constructed primarily of wood, according to fire investigators, who said the blaze originated in the kitchen area. These factors made the fire more intense, but no one was injured in the blaze.
