Wintefest is a magical time of year the Smoky Mountains! Start the season and fill your belly at the annual Winter Magic Kickoff and Chili Cookoff in Gatlinburg on Wednesday, November 12, 2014.
This kickoff event is one of Gatlinburg's favorite events of the year. The downtown happening promises a family-friendly evening of food, fun and, finally lights.
The special evening begins at 5:00 pm, when the Chili Cookoff participants start serving up helpings of their smoky stew. Attendees have an opportunity to sample all the chili they can handle, and then are invited to cast their vote for the People's Choice Award to be given to the maker of their favorite entry. A panel of judges will also be casting votes for other awards, including best chili, best presentation and best chili apron.
Chili cook off participants run the gamut of Gatlinburg's finest. Local restaurants, attractions, retailers, banks, civic groups and other agencies will perfect their recipes and cook up their best chili concoction for this year's event.
The chili cook off culminates with the ceremonious lighting of more than one million LED lights covering Gatlinburg for the Winterfest season. The 2014 display lines the resort city's famous downtown Parkway, the adjacent River Road and fills the triangle median where the two roads meet. See custom holiday lights and celebrate the season while making special Smoky Mountain memories with loved ones.
From seasoned chili to seasonal magic, Winterfest in the Great Smoky Mountains is truly a special time of year.
This exciting evening of light and fantasy begins at 7:30 p.m. Thanksgiving evening. This is a perfect way to get some fresh air after a day filled with feasting!
