18th Annual Wildnerness Wildlife Week™ Schedule
January 12-19, 2008


In its 18th year, the Wilderness Wildlife Week in Pigeon Forge presents a week brimming with activities intended to unite participants with nature and inspire awe for the Smoky Mountain terrain.  During the week of January 12-19, 2008, visitors can take classes on mountain photography, wildlife, history, and much more.  Those who are hungry for outdoor adventure can go on wilderness hikes and field trips, and everyone who loves live music will enjoy free performances daily. 

 Nearly 100 outdoor enthusiasts gather their talent and experience to provide exhibits and classes for Wilderness Wildlife week.

Daily activities during the week are free to the public, and there will be something stimulating for any age! Bringing thousands of nature lovers to Pigeon Forge each year, Wilderness Wildlife Week has been recognized for its educational and environmental contributions by the International Festivals & Events Association.

 

This year look forward to a new Wilderness event added to highlight the region’s rustic mountain music!  AppalachiaFest begins at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at the Country Tonite Theater.  David Holt will host the evening of music from local favorites including Doc Watson, Jack Pearson, William Howse, Phi and Gaye Johnson, and the Carolina Bluegrass Boys.  Tickets cost $15 for adults.  Ages 17 and under cost only $5 at the door.  Call 1-800-792-4308 to reserve seating.

4:30 – 6:00 p.m Old Harp Singing – East Tennessee shaped note singers sing traditional hymns that were used in old time singing schools around the GSM region. The “do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do” singing tradition has been kept alive in this area by a group of singers
who attend Old Harp Singings in Blount, Sevier and Knox counties. David Sarten will conduct the singing.

Panelists: Mr. Richard Isenberg, part owner of Isenberg Motors; Mr. Jimmy Temple whose family owned Temple Milling Co., he was a former mayor of Sevierville, and is a long standing county commissioner; and Mr. John B.
